Wake Up, Work, Eat, Sleep, Repeat

Life is moving quickly these days what with work, my ungodly commute to work, the actual working part, settling into said new job and finding time to spend time with the family.  When the weekends come I just want to shout for joy and then down a bottle glass of wine.

Blogging has taken a backseat due to my trying to find a balancing act which makes me a tad bit sad.  However, most wives will attest that family is greater than blog 100% of the time.  I sincerely hope that I get back into the swing of things soon.  Although, it might be hard because four days of work stand in between the Stews and Sin City!  It's just what the doctor ordered but seriously.  Ryan is completely bogged down with studying and I feel like I'm at work every second of the day so come Friday at 5 o'clock, I'm saying peace out to the world and not looking back....until next Monday at least.  In the meantime, here are some recent happenings.

Peanut butter, easy dinners on the couch, too much traffic and juice.
Basically this describes my life lately.

Or that one time Roberto from the Bachelorette came into the office and I had no clue who he was.
Or the time Ryan had a night flight and my meal was half grown up, half college. Guess who made what.
Waiting in forever lines at the post office. Also, my life these days.
My lunch view is nice so I guess that makes up for it?

These two on a Sunday morning
Also Ryan likes to make smoothies now. I won't say I told you so but...

The Association of Former Students

***Disclaimer: For the next few weeks, we have lots of birthdays, anniversaries and life events coming up so it's safe to assume my posts will contain me gushing over my wonderful family and friends.  Deal with it.  Onward.

Two years ago, I was walking across a giant stage in Reed Arena in College Station, Texas to receive my diploma with thousands of other Aggies.  My family and I then dashed over to the Memorial Student Center where we watched my precious, then-fiance commission into the United States Navy.  Then, we dashed ran like hell back over to Reed to watch him get his little piece of paper.  It is mind-blowing to me how fast time flies.

Today is just as special because my gorgeous, smart, crazy-funny sister-in-law is doing the same thing (minus commissioning).  She is graduating with her Bachelors of Science in Math and I could not be more proud of her.  She already has a job lined up already in the Dallas area as a high school math teacher.  I've touched on this before but I found it worthy enough of its own post.  I can't wait to see how positively she impacts the life of her students.  Anyone who learns algebra, geometry or calculus (a.k.a the subjects I didn't pay attention to and should have) from her is a lucky person.  I just know the Lord has great plans for her life.

I am so blessed to having amazing in-laws and I could not have asked for a more perfect sister to add to my collection.  Yes, I collect sisters.  That came out weird.  Whatever, it's Friday and this week has kicked my behind.  I digress.

Congrats, sweet Eliza!  Ryan and I are so proud of you.  Now just get to California so we can cuddle.  And, as usual, your card and present will be a little late because that's just how we do things. Truth.  We love you so much!

Mama

Today I celebrate the life of the most important woman in my life, my mom.

A few things I think of when I think of my mom:
  • Her smell is so comforting and familiar.  It's what home smells like.
  • The hardest worker I know.
  • So devoted to her faith.
  • The most patient and loving mother and grandmother.
  • Impeccable taste when it comes to decor and clothing.
  • A great listener.
  • Gives the best hugs.  I know, I know.. you probably think your Mom gives the best hugs but let's agree to disagree, ok?
  • Will let me vent and ramble on for hours.
  • Reading Once Upon a Potty, Too Many Babas and the Berestain Bears together.
  • Having cookie parties in the kitchen with Oreos and milk. Zee best thing.
  • Always willing to paint our toenails.
  • The only person I know to get an iPhone and not know what an App is.
  • Gives the best back and head scratches.  Because when you're 16 and crying over a boy, sometimes you just need a good back scratch.
  • Endlessly supportive.
  • The most amazing woman I know.

Happy Birthday, sweet mama.  Though you drive me nuts at times, I can't thank God enough for making you my mom.  I hope someday I can show my children at least half of the unconditional love you've given me the past 24 years.

And keep doing you what you're doing because you are smokin' for 53 29!

Currently

I found this little "currently" post here and I thought it would be fun to do.  Myself and a lot of my friends are going through different types of change these days (new jobs, moving to different states, getting married, having babies, all those real fun things) so I thought this only seemed fitting and a good way to vent and share a little about our day-to-day lives.

Thinking About -
I am thinking about all the different things I need to accomplish this week.  On top of working all day everyday, there are so many things I want to get done around the house and for myself.  I need to get birthday, mother's day, graduation and wedding cards/presents.  I need to buy plane tickets.  I want to work out.  There are certain decor items I want to buy for the house but just haven't had the motivation or energy to go shopping.  I need to clean the house and give Bruce a bath in preparation for this weekend.  There are not enough hours in the day.  One of the many things I love most about Ryan is his drive and determination when it comes to work.  However, when homeboy is done flying and studying, he shuts his noggin off.  Now if only he could transfer that superpower to me.

Feeling -
A little tired and overwhelmed but otherwise happy and content typing away while Ryan sits across from me studying for his flight tomorrow.

Watching -
We got through 3/4 of Dancing with the Stars then we migrated toward the kitchen for girl scout cookies, blogging thangs and studying (Ryan).  We still have it on in the background so I can peek at it.  I fear this is Sean Lowe's last week.  He has heart but lacks the moves.  Zendaya on the other hand?  Sheesh, that girl can move and she's only 16, it's mindblowing.  Chelsea, I know you understand my thoughts.

Reading -
The most recent copy of Elle which came in the mail a few weeks ago.  I'm not much of a reader so I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Looking Forward To -
Our trip to Vegas, my first paycheck, buying new work clothes (whenever I get around to going shopping..ugh), watching our very good friend's get married in June.  There really are so many things coming up and it makes me giddy excited.

Making Me Happy -
My green smoothie every morning for breakfast.  The ability to work well as a team with Ryan. Since going back to work, we split up a lot of the household chores and he hasn't complained once.  Peanut butter and strawberry on toast.  Nightly walks with Ryan and Bruce and just talking about our day.  It really is the little things.

May Gray, June Gloom

I learned the aforementioned quote, "May Gray, June Gloom" this weekend and apparently it explains  the weather we've had around here lately (yucky and cloudy).  Don't say you haven't learned anything from reading this blog.  All I'm saying is, this is supposed to be Southern California and I need a few days by the pool so if the sun would kindly make an appearance, that would be great.

I officially have three days of work under my belt..phew!  Getting back into the swing of working has been a challenge and it's definitely weird not being at home everyday.  I'm still trying to figure out the balancing act between work, working out, cooking, cleaning, blogging and spending time with Ryan and Bruce.  I've done it before and I can do it again but sleeping in was just sooooo nice.  And, lucky for me, Chef Ryan is always helping a sista out when it comes to cooking dinner..and his food always tastes way better than anything I cook.

Here are a few snapshots of our short weekend: a little dinner date, a little breakfast date and house thangs.

A celebratory dinner downtown.

I've been wanting a waffle for a month.
No exaggeration here.

While parking, we spotted this poor Lexus getting a bath.

Ryan was kind enough to do the laundry this weekend while I worked.
He must have forgot that folding is the last step.
Married life is funny.

A few things I'm currently looking forward to and loving?
  • Our friends, the Wagstaff's are moving to San Diego this weekend and I am always down to have fellow Aggies/military friends around.
  • The weekend after that, one of my favorite gal pals from college, Lindsay, is coming into town. Yay!
  • The weekend after that is our anniversary trip to Vegas. WE. CANNOT. WAIT. Have we really been married for almost 2 years?!
  • My sweet sister-in-law graduates from A&M on Friday!!!  This fall will be her first year of teaching high school math.  But seriously, respect sister.  And, at this point, our kids do not have a choice when it comes to choosing a college.
Bless Ryan's heart in this picture. He said he was really trying hard to make it a good one.

May, you really are so promising!
June, you will be just as good but that's for another post.

Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend!
Here's to another manic Monday!
Is it Friday yet?
